Are you anxious? Having trouble sleeping? Well, I’m not surprised. Many of us are at this time. It feels like the world is on a knife's edge. We are in a global pandemic - the economy is not doing great and we are worried about our nearest and dearest. Masks are now part of our everyday attire and working from home is the norm. In these unprecedented times we are hearing of an increase in mental health issues and many people are finding themselves more anxious than ever with the future being unclear and no timeline on when things may return to “normal.” Truth is, this may just be our new normal and so we must buckle up and figure out ways to manage increased levels of anxiety and remedies to help us get to sleep. One solution that many people have turned to is CBD oil.
CBD oil has gotten a lot more buzz in the last couple of years. This is because as more people use it, and have positive experiences, the more they want to share this with others. It appears to be the miracle remedy to temper many people’s everyday stresses or to help with sleep. Of course, everyone is different and so what might be the best solution for you, might not be for others, but I thought I would give it a try and write about my experience below.
Firstly, people are becoming more concerned than ever with the crap they put into their bodies and don’t want to become reliant on anything that isn’t natural. This has led to a shift from prescriptions or synthetic over the counter medication to more natural remedies. Consequently, there is an increased interest in what solutions can be found from plants. One of the most popular at the moment is CBD.
But, in fact, CBD or cannabis-derived remedies have been around for thousands of years and used to be commonly prescribed by doctors for aches and pains before prohibition was introduced last century. However, now that CBD is legal in the UK (provided it contains less than 0.2% THC) we are beginning to see a reconnection and renewed interest in this magical plant. Primarily as CBD is particularly good for reducing anxiety (which ultimately impacts and helps us get a good night’s sleep). This is because CBD interacts with the receptors within our body that are responsible for controlling fear and anxiety - so it instills calm and relaxation to counteract any activated receptors thus dealing with the underlying anxiety head on (click here for one of our other posts on this).
As most of us know, there are a number of ways that you can take CBD (and we have you covered for most of these! From CBD edibles to vaping, however, many folk favour CBD oil drops as they are the most natural and healthy. Our CBD oil drops are broad spectrum CBD meaning that they contain other minor cannabinoids such as CBG in addition to the CBD. We have then dissolved the CBD into MCT oil. Our natural CBD oil drops come in three strengths with the lowest being 3.3% and our highest 10%. As they are natural in flavour there is a very light taste of hemp which becomes more pronounced the stronger you go. This is why we decided to also offer our 10% oils in a flavoured spray format to mask this bitterness and because spraying is often more fun!
When you want to take the CBD, you just use the pipette to drop or spray some CBD under your tongue, hold it there for 30-60 seconds (so it can absorb into the artery under your tongue) and swallow. The effects of the CBD will not be instantaneous, but you should feel it working within 30 minutes or so.
In terms of the perfect CBD dosage for anxiety, it really is so personal as each of our bodies will respond differently to the CBD. So what might be a perfect CBD dosage for me, may not be for you. We suggest trying 5-10 drops and seeing how you feel, but it is very much a process of trial and error over time. This is also the case with when you should take it as for some people it makes them sleepy whilst for others it makes them more energetic!
